Fishing

The Alness has good runs of both salmon and grilse from July to the end of October and typically produces annual rod catches of 150-250 salmon and grilse, of which about two thirds are caught on the Novar waters. The season begins on the 15th March and ends on the 31st October.

The Novar Fishings offer six rotating beats, the average length of each beat being about a mile, with typically fifteen to twenty named pools. Both banks are included although most of the fishing is from the southern (right) bank.

It has a small spring run of salmon and sea trout from late April until early June and the first main grilse run is expected in early July. The most productive part of the season is generally from mid-July through until the end of October.

The Alness has reasonable runs of sea trout in summer months offering some exciting night-time fishing.
